Tate Fillipus is very happy ! He enjoys catching and drying fish. This year and thanks to the extraordinary 2011 flooding event, catfish is still available in the last remaining oshana water pools even during early July. Take a look to the catfish in the ‘Farm Product’ section.
In the farm house Meme Tresia during the week was busy cleaning. Sustainche farm house is a quite large homestead. So, cleaning takes some time.
Three other season duties are ongoing:
i) First of all marula oil production – the gold of Owambo – is a major challenge and needs a lot of care and efforts if it is produced by hands’ work only.
ii) Secondly, a new oshoongo for catching fish in the oshanas needed to be produced. Meme Tresia is the specialist for this art exercise. Sustainche™ & Lisa were overjoyed to receive their own oshoongo as a gift.
iii) And then, step by step, it is also to pound mahungu. In the evening your hands will tell you how much work was done during the day. By the way, mahangu: Although the harvest was under-average in early 2011, it appears that it will be sufficient to sustain the family. This is good news !
Good news for the Sustainche Farm™ family is also that not only the first community members subscribed Sustainche Farm™ website, but they also enthusiastically started the discussion. Thank you very much indeed for supporting the Sustainche Farm™ project in Northern Namibia !
